Nutrition at The Nightingale-Bamford School

The Nightingale-Bamford School has partnered with Cater To You Food Service as the dining services provider to create daily meals that focus on optimal nutritional impact. Offerings consist of a wide variety of protein sources (both animal and plant based), whole grains, legumes, dairy, healthy fats, and the freshest fruits and vegetables. 

Menus are designed monthly to reflect seasonal availability, holidays, and the special dietary needs of The Nightingale-Bamford School community. The culinary team is led by our Chef Manager.  

Cater To You takes careful measures not to prepare or serve meals that contain peanuts or tree nuts. Extensive allergy awareness training through third-party certifiers AllerTrain and ServSafe has been completed by the Chef Manager, Chef, and Sous Chef. In addition, all other CTY team members serving The Nightingale-Bamford School community receive annual allergy awareness instruction as part of CTY’s Back-to-School training programming.

Breakfast Service (middle and upper schools) Includes:

  • Milk

  • Cereal

  • Bagels and sliced bread (wheat and white)

  • Butter, cream cheese, Sunbutter, natural fruit spreads

  • Stonyfield organic individual 4oz yogurts

  • Hard-boiled pasture-raised eggs

  • Horizon organic cheese sticks

  • Whole fruit; banana, apple, orange, pears

  • Oatmeal with toppings, overnight oats, or yogurt with toppings

Lower School Family-Style Lunch Service Includes:

  • 1 entree (meat/poultry/fish); vegetarian option is provided to students individually

  • 1 side vegetable

  • 1 side starch (potato, pasta, rice, or other whole grain)

  • 1 soup offered twice a week

  • dessert (house-baked item, ice-cream, or Chloe’s fruit-bar, is offered once a week, typically on Friday)

  • fruit: salad, cut, or whole available daily

Lower School Salad | Sandwich Station Includes:

  • 1 lettuce and 6 toppings to create your own salad, 2 proteins, 4 produce items

  • Fresh cut fruit

  • Assorted Stonyfield organic yogurts and granola

  • 1 pre-made sandwich or wrap (ham, cheese, tuna salad, egg salad, Sunbutter & jelly)

  • 2 sandwich components (1 Applegate deli meat, 1 cheese)

  • Bagels and sliced wheat bread

  • Butter, cream cheese and condiments

  • Whole fruit: bananas, apples, oranges, pears

Middle/Upper School Salad | Sandwich Station Includes:

  • Salad Station

    • 2 lettuces

    • 24 toppings to create your own salad

    • 6 proteins

    • 18 produce and other toppings

    • 4 composed salads (vegetable salad, pasta salad, protein salad, grain salad)

    • 4 housemade dressings

  • Sandwich Station

    • 2 pre-made sandwiches or wraps (a rotating selection of ham, cheese, tuna salad, egg salad, Sunbutter & jelly)

    • 2 sandwich components (1 Applegate deli meat, 1 cheese)

    • Bagels and sliced wheat bread

    • Butter, cream cheese and condiments

  • Yogurt Station

    • Assorted Stoneyfield Organic yogurt

    • Fresh-Cut fruit

    • Housemade granola

Grab-and-Go:

  • 2 assorted salads (rotation of House Salad, Caesar Salad, Greek Salad, Chicken Caesar Salad, and Niçoise Salad)

  • Protein wrap daily

  • Hummus and pita every other day

  • Fruit cup every other day

  • Yogurt parfait every other day

  • Stonyfield organic individual 4oz yogurts

  • Hard-boiled pasture-raised eggs

  • Horizon organic cheese sticks

  • Whole fruit: bananas, apples, oranges, pears

Middle | Upper School and Faculty Buffet-style Lunch Service

Hot Food Station

  • 2 soups, 1 vegetarian

  • 1 entree (meat, poultry, or fish)

  • 1 vegetarian entree

  • 1 side vegetable

  • 1 side starch (potato, pasta, rice, or other whole grain)

Beverages Offered Daily

  • Water

  • Flavored water

  • Organic iced tea, decaffeinated

  • Reduced-fat milk

  • Low-fat chocolate milk

Snack Service Offered Daily

  • All snacks are now delivered to the designated grade level floors (beverages, yogurts, and cheese sticks are not delivered due to perishability)
